Frederik Meijer Office of Fellowships

Frederik Meijer Office of Fellowships We serve all students and alumni of GVSU, including all majors or areas of study. We welcome alumni and work frequently with alumni applicants.

The Office of Fellowships serves all students and alumni of GVSU, including all majors or areas of study. Many awards we support specifically target underrepresented students in higher education. Many awards seek applicants who have significant gap experiences in leadership and service between commencement and advanced study or other forms of fellowship experience.

Check this out! Applications for Winter Scientists in Parks positions are open NOW.

The Scientists in Parks (SIP) program officially opens applications TODAY, May 11 for the winter cohort!

Every year, SIP places hundreds of college students, recent grads, and early-career professionals in national parks across the country to support real-world natural resource projects. One position might have you mapping sand dunes at Fire Island National Seashore, surveying towering cacti at Saguaro National Park, or helping protect nesting sea turtles at Padre Island National Seashore 🐢🌵🌊

No two positions are the same, but every experience is built to help launch the next generation of scientists, conservationists, and public land stewards.

If you’re exploring careers in STEM or land management, this is your sign to apply 👀

Hooray! A GVSU student has received the prestigious Goldwater Scholarship award! Lola Piper '27, Cell & Molecular Bio major, is a Goldwater! She is one of 454 students awarded across the United States.

Here's the key blurb from the Goldwater website: "From an estimated pool of over 5,000 college sophomores and juniors, 1,485 students majoring in science, engineering, and mathematics were nominated by 482 academic institutions to compete for the 2026 Goldwater Scholarships. Among the students who reported, 226 are men, 217 are women, and nearly all intend to pursue a PhD as their highest degree. Of the awardees, 54 Scholars plan to pursue research careers in mathematics and computer science, 237 in the sciences, 98 in medicine, and 65 in engineering and materials research." Much to celebrate! This is a testament to the strength of our undergraduate research program, the brilliance of highly driven, outstanding students, and the dedication of faculty research mentors.
