Pew Faculty Teaching & Learning Center at Grand Valley State University Our programs and services foster dialog and community-building around teaching and learning.

Guided by the ideals of liberal education and the principles of inclusive excellence, the Pew FTLC strengthens the university in carrying out its primary mission of teaching and learning. Through its programming and services, the Pew FTLC seeks to:

• Reward teaching excellence

• Build community around teaching and learning

• Cultivate dialogue about teaching and learning through ori

entations, workshops, individual consultations, and other programs

• Promote a scholarly and reflective approach to teaching

• Develop and disseminate teaching resources

• Support faculty in their efforts to improve their teaching and to disseminate the results of their teaching and learning projects

• Partner with other support offices on campus, offering collaborative programming and referring faculty for assistance outside the Center’s area of service

• Collaborate with faculty developers in the region and the nation to share best practices and resources, where appropriate

• Consult with departments, colleges, committees, and campus administrators on faculty development issues


The Pew FTLC staff respond to the needs of the faculty and the campus community. We strive to provide a broad range of programs in order to serve faculty, regardless of rank or career stage.

Our Sponsored Teaching and Learning Event (STLE) grant can help here too! We can cover the cost of your enrollment in an ACUE Evidence-Based Teaching Practices Course!

These courses promote active learning, explore how to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment, and strive to inspire inquiry in our learners! Topical courses are 6-weeks in length and online.

The deadline to request a MIT (Mid-Semester Interview about Teaching) is TOMORROW, February 23rd.

MITs will be conducted through March 15th but need to be requested by tomorrow.

This Mid-Semester evaluation service allows instructors to get timely feedback on how your students' learning is going in your course.
