For the last half-century, Daniel Klem, Sarkis Acopian Professor of Ornithology and director of Muhlenberg’s Acopian Center for Ornithology, has been at the forefront of research on bird collisions with glass.

His new research, which was recently published in The Wilson Journal of Ornithology and featured in National Geographic, shows the annual death toll of birds crashing into glass may have been severely underestimated in the past.

Glass is even more deadly to birds than previously thought, according to a new peer-reviewed study led by Professor of Ornithology Daniel Klem. But, unlike many environmental problems, the solutions are simple.

Mark Grasso ’98 has a whale of a career: He carves wooden sea creatures and sells them from his Asbury Park, New Jersey, storefront.
“Any person who does art — photography, writing books, whatever it is — will tell you that you’re lucky when you get to sell stuff. It’s a good rush. Not many people get to do what they like every day,” Grasso says. https://bit.ly/3QQIBun

Being able to see folks get educated is something that really drives me,” says Heidi Kunsch ’01, who develops programs to encourage the adoption of clean transportation and green buildings in her role with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
