It’s going to be a great concert!!

The Northwestern Jazz Ensemble and Symphonic Band are teaming up for a joint concert on Tuesday, March 10, at 7 p.m. in Fellers Family Auditorium in Herod Hall — and it's free and open to the public.

The evening kicks off with a 30-minute set from the Ranger Jazz Ensemble, featuring student improvisation across classic and contemporary jazz traditions. The Northwestern Symphonic Band follows with a 45-minute performance of contemporary and traditional wind band literature, including works with fixed media elements and wind band adaptations of choral works.

"The Symphonic Band performs in this format only a few times each academic year," said band director Xan Perkins. "This concert represents the dedication and preparation our students bring to the instrumental music program at Northwestern."

The instrumental music program at Northwestern Oklahoma State University will present a free “TubaChristmas” concert in downtown Alva on the Woods County Courthouse bandstand stage as part of the Alva Chamber of Commerce's Bring Christmas Home for the Holidays event.

On Saturday, Dec. 6, registration will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the Alva Presbyterian Church, with rehearsal following at 1 p.m. The performance will then move to the downtown square at 3 p.m.

TubaChristmas is open to everyone with all levels of experience who play tuba, sousaphone, euphonium and baritone. Contact Alexander Perkins, instructor of instrumental music and director of bands, if planning to participate.
