Americus Does History!

Georgia Southwestern State University will host an ‘Americus Does History! event on Friday, September 25th to support the broader "We Want More History!" movement building across the nation. Student posters exploring our Sumter County history will be exhibited in Canes Central, starting at 10 am. Intended to spark new research and deep conversations about the past and present within our diverse communities, the Americus Does History! event is free and open to the public. Last week, Future Chemist/Scientist Connect brought GSW students face-to-face with industry leaders to discuss careers in science. With support from the American Chemical Society, six companies joined faculty and students for a fast-paced networking event focused on internships, mentorship, and career pathways.

Participating companies included TCI Powder Coatings, TSG Resolute, Timac USA, 13th Colony Distilleries, IMERYS Refractory Minerals USA, Inc., and Helena Industries, LLC. Thank you for helping strengthen the bridge between the classroom and the workforce!

Professor of Chemistry Nedialka Iordanova recently presented a poster at the American Chemical Society National Spring 2026 Conference held in Atlanta. Dr. Iordanova talked to many participants about all the activities the local section has done in the past year, including GSW's annual Science Day for local high school students, Chemistry Club making liquid nitrogen ice cream at the Homecoming Tailgate, and several other chemistry demonstrations in the community. ⚗
