BIG LIFT. A new miniature horse lift will help Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center teams provide safer, more efficient care for miniature horses, small ponies and donkeys. The lift will be shared by the Farrier Shop, Theriogenology, Equine Field Services, and Equine Surgery services and allows better access to the feet and mouth of smaller equine patients, supporting procedures such as hoof care and dental work. The lift was fabricated from a motorcycle mechanic's table by ISU farrier Doug Russo, creating a practical solution tailored to meet the needs of LVMC patients and clinical teams.

EQUINE ASSISTANCE. Each year, a group of Iowa State University undergraduates and College of Veterinary Medicine veterinary students support the Lloyd Veterinary Medicine Center's Equine ICU staff and fourth year students. The ISU students are trained to do basic treatments on patients, keep up and maintain biosecurity in the ICU and isolation units, while gaining valuable hands-on experience that will benefit them in the fourth year of vet school.

HELPING THE NEXT PET. The Iron Dog Fund is a client assistance fund in the College of Veterinary Medicine that helps companion animals of all kinds, not just dogs, when their families need assistance covering the cost of essential veterinary care.

Thanks to a generous estate gift, the fund has helped numerous pets receive treatment they otherwise may not have been able to access. Over the past year and half, over 80 pets have received support through the Iron Dog Fund, averaging $2,200 per case.

This incredible support of helping pets in need has caused Iron Dog Funds to be significantly depleted.

Please consider making a contribution to the Iron Dog Fund and help the next pet and family in need.

HELPING CROW CREEK. Each summer, College of Veterinary Medicine faculty, alumni and students as well as community volunteers participate in the Crow Creek Reservation Service Trip where they provide veterinary services to tribal members of the Crow Creek Reservation. The 2026 FundISU campaign supports this trip by purchasing essential supplies for the clinics and providing meals and transportation for the students who serve there.

FOAL WATCH TEAM. This spring, a team of Iowa State University veterinary students and undergraduates assisted the College of Veterinary Medicine Equine ICU staff care for foals that needed to be maintained on a bed. The students kept the foals in a comfortable position, ensuring they would stay clean and dry while also watching for any changes in their medical status.
