e lab is based in 1058 LeBaron Hall where the team works on different research projects that analyze the relationships between appearance, fashion, clothing, style, identity, and social justice. Our first goal and focus is to research topics related to marginalized individuals and communities. Our second goal is to move the findings from our research beyond the academy through different outlets such as film and public exhibitions. Director:

Exhibition Object of the Day: “Each of us is more than the worst things we’ve ever done” -Bryan Stevenson. This T-shirt was purchased by a current Black women college student who visited The Legacy Museum: From Enslavement to Mass Incarceration in Montgomery, AL, which is a part of the Equality Justice Initiative created by legal activist Bryan Stevenson. The student purchased the shirt while on a university-sponsored trip to the museum and shared that she uses the shirt to “educate people around [her]” as a part of her activist identity.

Exhibition Object of the Day: This thrifted, 1990s inspired vest reflects the nostalgia of 90s tv shows that captured Black culture such as "In Living Color" and "Sister Sister" where the characters often wore brightly colored garments with geometric shapes. Black women college students at PWIs wear styles inspired by 90s Black culture to express Black identity while on campus.

Exhibition Object of the Day: This Nike T-shirt reads “Equality” and was purchased by a Black women college student to support former NFL player Colin Kaepernick’s Nike endorsement and his stance on the need to end police brutality against people of color. “Equality” is only one word, but when worn on the body to make a statement, this one word says a lot.
