Exploration of space and art both featured in a visit to the department by retired NASA astronaut Cady Coleman, PhD and her husband, glass artist Josh Simpson. Katherine "Cady" Coleman is an Air Force veteran and scientist who served on two NASA Space Shuttle missions and aboard the International Space Station. She has logged more than 4,330 hours in space. Photos shared in a presentation included Simpson-created glass spheres aboard the International Space Station with Coleman. Simpson's space and nature-inspired work is currently displayed at Iowa State's Brunnier Art Museum.

The champs! Team Grubbin topped all challengers in the AER E 1600 Lighter Than Air Fly-Off competition in the Howe Hall atrium. A total of 45 teams, each with their own Pokemon character-based craft, took on the daunting obstacle course with Grubbin besting all challengers in two rounds of heats, semi finals and the championship. Congratulations to team members Aeris Bonefas, Felicity Brokaw, Jason Detlefsen, Jordyn Doughty, Sama Jabbbar and Kayla Oftedahl (not pictured). See more pictures from the competition in a separate post.

They were "blasting off again" in the AER E 1600 Lighter Than Air fall semester Fly-Off! With Pokemon as the design theme, 45 teams hit the launch pads in an evening of flying their lighter than air remote controlled craft, with the aid of helium-filled balloons, through the famous obstacle course in the Howe atrium. When it was over, the Grubbin team emerged as the champion (see the team featured in a separate post). Congratulations to all who supported this great end-of-semester event. AerE communication specialist John Burnett-Larkins handled live announcing duties while KURE radio supplied the live music and fall graduating seniors watched the action from their own special viewing area.

Congratulations!
