Hammond was retired to the UMAS vet tech program in the fall. Hammond has been with the Veterinary Technology program for one school year. He has taught the veterinary technology students all the hands-on techniques required to be a Certified Veterinary Technician(CVT) but is ready for retirement into a loving home.
Hammond is initially a bit shy but friendly. He warms up quickly when approached calmly with slow movements and quiet conversation. Once comfortable, he enjoys pats and playing with toys. His experiences have been limited so he will need time, patience and understanding as he gets accustomed to world outside the lab and educational environments. Most of his time has been spent among women so he his most comfortable with them. He can be easily overwhelmed by other dogs. His ideal home would be as an only dog with a single female or a couple if the male is experienced and is willing to wait for him to warm up to him. He will not do well in a home with children. Highschoolers who are able to wait for him to warm up would probably be ok. A fenced-in yard is a bonus, but not required. Hammond is 5 years old, about 26 lbs, UTD with vaccines, neutered and recently had a dental cleaning.
