Massachusetts Society of Professors - UMass Amherst

Massachusetts Society of Professors - UMass Amherst The Massachusetts Society of Professors (MSP) union represents faculty & librarians at UMass Amherst.

As a member driven union, MSP’s main role is to advocate for its faculty and librarian members. In addition to contract negotiation/enforcement and representation, they focus on addressing a range of issues that affect the lives of their members and the quality of education offered at the University. The Massachusetts Society of Professors works with the Faculty Senate and administration on issues

affecting the academic community, actively lobbies for University funding and represents the campus before the state's higher education and political authorities. MSP also strongly advocates for the students of UMass Amherst and for quality and affordable public higher education. The MSP gains further strength and influence through their affiliations with the Massachusetts Teachers Association (MTA) and the National Education Association (NEA).

State employees simply cannot bear the increases under consideration by the GIC Commission. MSP members spoke at a press event last night and outlined the devastating impacts that higher medical costs will have on our families. Check out Jamie Hartmann-Boyce and Theo Schall's Op-Ed on MassLive (linked in bio) to reach their analysis based on their research in equitable medical access.

Other solutions exist! MSP member Michal Hornỳ shared some ideas last night, like leveraging our 500,000 GIC membership to force pharmaceutical and other providers to keep costs reasonable for working families. We support the day-to-day operations of Massachusetts, the wealthiest state in the wealthiest country, chock full of millionaires and billionaires. Pass the basket to them. Tell the GIC: NO CUTS!
