Are you wondering if this page is still posting? I mean, generally not so much, largely because our target audience of UMass Amherst undergrads and alumni aren't here to see our posts. You'll find us more often on Instagram -- see you there! (But let us know in the comments if you'd like to see more content here.)

Check out this great profile and interview with UMass Amherst lawyer-alum Sharon Stapel (WGSS and Psych '90, CUNY Law '98).

Fun fact: AVP played a central role in passing an LGBTQ-inclusive Violence Against Women Act, ensuring explicit protections of LGBTQ people by the federal govenement for the first time in history. As part of our 40th Anniversary 40 Change Maker Profiles, we are spotlighting Sharon Stapel, who served AVP for seven years as Executive Director, launched AVP’s free legal services in 2013, and helped lead the federal government to ensure critical protections of LGBTQ communities.

Read Sharon Stapel’s full story and join us next week by making your voice heard and giving a gift to support our work on Giving Tuesday! Read more at the link:

The Massachusetts Appeals Court returns to UMass Amherst to hear cases right here on campus. The cases to be heard include three criminal cases (involving the definition of “disorderly conduct,” when “armed career criminal” sentencing enhancement is allowed, and possession of po*******hy) as well as three civil cases (a licensing dispute involving a chain restaurant, a domestic relations dispute, and a landlord/tenant case). This is an excellent opportunity to see the court at work. Attendance at the arguments is open to all.

UMass Amherst students are invited to a luncheon with the judges directly following the arguments—registration is required, via tinyurl.com/AppealsCourt21

As an added bonus, all three judges are UMass Amherst alumni—Justice William Meade (‘86, Western New England Law ‘89), Justice Mary Sullivan (‘75, Northeastern Law ‘81), and Justice Maureen Walsh (‘88, Western New England Law ‘91).
