One Island One Ocean

Join us for an inspiring live classroom on June 2nd with the 2009/10 the crew from the first Around the Americas Expedition about their extraordinary journey!!

In this special session, crew members from the first expedition will reflect on the voyage’s remarkable accomplishments and lasting impact. David Logan, David Thoreson, Herb McCormick, Mark Schrader, and special guest David Rockefeller will share extraordinary stories from aboard Ocean Watch, the 64-foot steel cutter that completed the first-ever continuous west-to-east circumnavigation of the American continents by sail. Together, this collaboration of journalists, educators, philanthropists, and scientists documented the condition of our ocean and shared stories of coastal communities dependent and connected to the sea. Their epic journey is captured in the book One Island, One Ocean — a powerful story of exploration, resilience, and the fragile future of our blue planet.

This special One Ocean class is about more than adventure. It is about inspiring and encouraging meaningful action. Students will discover the small but powerful steps people can take to help protect our ocean and shape a healthier future for our planet. The crew will share how they continue to raise awareness about the challenges facing our ocean while offering practical ways students can use their voices, curiosity, and passion to become ocean stewards in their own communities.

One Island, One Ocean is more than a story — it is an invitation to join a movement. 🌎🌊

Nothing better than hands on learning on the waterfront! ⚓️

SVC Skallywags
Hydraulics students recently conducted a vessel survey aboard the local Dungeness crabbing boat Kannin C. Students gained valuable real-world experience identifying hydraulic components, observing commercial fishing operations, and learning how hydraulic systems play a critical role in the maritime industry.

A huge thank you to the crew of the Kannin C. for supporting maritime education and giving our students this incredible opportunity! 🦀🔧
