This past Friday, the UAA Fine Arts Building was opened to the community to kick off the UAA College of Arts & Sciences 50th Anniversary Celebration. Visitors had the opportunity to explore behind the scenes the creative spaces that our Art, Music, & Theatre students and faculty work in throughout the academic year.

To commemorate this experience, Professor James Riordan & Department Chair Mike Conti, designed and printed a unique poster that visitors were gifted. Thank you, professors, for creating this memorable work of art.

We are so excited to be able to participate in celebrating CAS‘s 50th anniversary. As well as all the upcoming events that will be happening throughout the next school year. If you would like to learn more about how and when we are celebrating, please check out the Main CAS webpage for updates (link in bio on IG)

Earlier this month, UAA’s Art Historian & Professor Christopher T. Richards traveled to Geneva for the 6th Swiss Congress for Art History.

Organized jointly by the Swiss Association of Art Historians (VKKS | ASHHA | ASSSA) and the Division of Art History at the University of Geneva, the congress is aimed at art historians, art researchers and experts from all fields (including both practice and theory), and all institutions. Those interested are invited to submit proposals for 20 minute papers within one of the ten sessions that are facilitated by the advisory board.

Professor Richards had the opportunity to speak at the conference and presented his talk: “Désirer et troubler : approches q***r et trans en art médiéval.” Which translates to: Troubling Desires: Q***r and Trans Approaches to Medieval Art.

His session aimed to foster exchanges between those who work on gender and sexuality in the field of medieval art history. It’s premised on the idea that the tools required to study premodern sexuality and gender in and as related to the visual arts are not necessarily those that have been so central to modern and contemporary histories of these topics.

We’re proud of the work and amazing experiences that our faculty beyond the walls of the University of Alaska Anchorage. Thank you, Professor Richards, for highlighting your opportunity with us and we’re excited to share more with our UAA Community!
