DMACC Mortuary Science Program

DMACC Mortuary Science Program Welcome to the Mortuary Science Program at Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC).

The central aim of each graduate of the DMACC Mortuary Science Program is to recognize that they are community members who are sensitive to their responsibility for public health, safety, and welfare in caring for human remains. As members of the human services profession, each graduate must be knowledgeable of and compliant with federal, state, and local regulations, as they participate in the re

lationship between themselves and the bereaved families they serve. The Mortuary Science purposes are:

*To enlarge the background and knowledge of students about the funeral service profession.

*To educate students in every phase of funeral service, and to help enable them to develop the proficiency and skills necessary of the profession.

*To educate students concerning the responsibilities of the funeral service profession to the community at large.

*To emphasize high standards of ethical conduct.

*To provide a curriculum at the post secondary level of instruction.

*To encourage research in the field of funeral service.

*To provide students the business and legal knowledge, philosophical/ethical principles, and specific techniques and skills to enable them to be successful within the funeral service profession.

*To educate and prepare individuals for active contribution to the service and welfare of their communities.

Almost 90 DMACC Mortuary Science Program students spent today (Wed., March 23) touring different religious facilities in the Greater Des Moines area. They were able to visit Our Lady's Immaculate Heart, the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George, the Islamic and Cultural Center Bosniak of Des Moines, and finished the day learning about military rites at Camp Dodge. It was amazing to have our students on campus and getting to know them better. YOU ALL ROCK!!!

DMACC Mortuary Science Program graduate Jennifer Girres, who has been a staff member with Harris Funeral Home for nine years, is also a Mallard native who grew up attending St. Mary's.
