How can individual biblical separation benefit the entire church?

In Part 2 of "Economic Wisdom as an Analogy to Prudence of Separation," Dr. Paul Hartog uses the principles of economic wisdom to explain the biblical doctrine of separation. While many across the Evangelical spectrum can emphasize “Christian liberty,” Dr. Hartog argues that Scripture invites Christians to exercise responsibility, discernment, and concern in their personal walk for the health of the entire church. Just as wise economics balances personal freedom with stewardship and the common good, biblical separation involves not only “separating from” harmful influences but also “separating for” the preservation of sound doctrine for future generations. As Dr. Hartog writes, “Personal freedoms in the present must be limited by communitarian concerns for the future.”

Is biblical separation always a separation from error?

In this article, Dr. Paul Hartog uses the analogy of economics to illustrate an aspect of biblical separation. While separation is often understood primarily as “separating from” error, Dr. Hartog also highlights the importance of “separating for” wise and intentional stewardship. Because churches possess limited time, money, and resources, they must prayerfully invest in opportunities that best align with their convictions and most effectively serve their local body for God’s glory. As Dr. Hartog writes, “With only one earthly life to live, we must separate ourselves for the sake of wise eternal investment."

What is the role of the church in caring for widows?
