Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Technology prepares students for a career in a variety of design and drafting disciplines. The CAD technology student will be exposed to and operate different CAD software packages and related equipment. customary design and drafting standards. Students can obtain a one-year diploma or a two-year Associate degree in CAD technology. Students enrolled in the one-year dipl

oma will be taught basic drafting and CAD practices with emphasis on entry-level drafting job skills. Students enrolled in the Associate degree program will complete the first year diploma requirements and in the second year apply advanced CAD software operations including three-dimensional parametric (solid) modeling, model/assembly analysis and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. Associate degree students will also be taught a variety of specialized design and drafting standards that are used in several different industries. Engineering and manufacturing design and drafting, computer animation, technical publishing and independent CAD contracting are areas where Computer-Aided Design Technology program graduates may find employment.

Mechdyne Opportunity

Drafter responsibilities include gathering drawings and specifications, calculating material and equipment requirements and setting up production methods. Need to have hands-on experience with 3D modeling software such as SolidWorks and are familiar with manufacturing.
Ultimately, you’ll help us build functional, secure and well-designed products that meet our needs. Flexible to be partially remote as well.
Responsibilities
• Liaise with Clients and engineers to gather product and design constraints
• Calculate dimensions, weight limitations and requirements in materials
• Describe production methods step-by-step (including equipment and software types to be used)
• Create detailed designs with SolidWorks
• Be able to record a complete statement of work
• Prepare and review rough sketches and review them along with the engineering team and clients
• Identify potential operational issues and redesign products to improve functionality
• Ensure final designs comply with statement of work and quality standards
• Develop and maintain bill of materials for projects and communicate with production.
Requirements
• Experience as a Drafter or similar role
• Hands-on experience with 3D modeling software
• Familiarity sheet metal manufacturing a plus
• Good math skills
• Ability to meet deadlines
• 2 year degree or greater in drafting, CAD or 3D Modeling preferred
• Additional certification from the American Design Drafting Association (ADDA) is a plus
