Whittney Logan is pursuing a Masters in Nursing at to become a primary care pediatric nurse practitioner. After a seven-year hiatus from formal education to care for her children, Whittney’s return to graduate education marks a personal triumph and professional milestone. Her goal is to specialize in pediatric neurology, addressing the need for neurological specialists in underserved communities. Whittney’s motivation is personal, too: her oldest daughter lives with focal epilepsy and cognitive challenges, and her youngest children manage an array of complex conditions, including severe allergies, asthma, and suspected genetic disorders. CEW+ honors Whittney’s vision for equitable pediatric care and names her a Margaret Dow Towsley Scholar.

Farhia Mohamed is a master’s student in public health at the University of Michigan School of Public Health with a concentration in nutritional sciences and social epidemiology. A clinical dietitian turned global health researcher, Farhia’s career bridges continents, disciplines, and communities in service of equitable health outcomes. Farhia writes, “My central purpose is to advance health equity for women and underserved communities across borders and systems.” She is committed to building inclusive health systems that center women and underserved communities and to carrying forward the dreams of those who believe in her. Zoe Gurney is pursuing a Master of Public Health degree in global health epidemiology at the University of Michigan School of Public Health. Her research offers important insights for HPV vaccine promotion in China and may also inform efforts to improve vaccine uptake and coverage in the United States. As a Chinese-American adoptee, the opportunity to return to China and strengthen her Mandarin language skills represents a meaningful step in reconnecting with her heritage while also deepening her cross-cultural communication skills. Catherine Goode is a professional soprano and third-year Doctor of Musical Arts student at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance. Catherine has performed more than 75 operatic and concert roles across the country, demonstrating vocal agility, interpretive depth, and a dynamic presence in both standard and contemporary repertoire. Her CEW+ Fellowship supports Expanding the Classical Music Canon, a project commissioning new vocal works by living female composers, librettists, and poets. Laura had long dreamed of graduate school. Her plans were paused when, in 2021, she and her husband welcomed a son. However, Laura was persistent. In 2024, Laura and her husband moved across the country for Laura’s dream of attending Ross. Tyler Bunday is currently pursuing a masters in environmental justice and ecosystem science and management at University of Michigan School for Environment and Sustainability, where he works to advocate for food sovereignty and agroecological resilience. As a first-generation college graduate and the first in his family to pursue graduate education, Tyler is dedicated to ensuring others have access to mentorship and support. After graduation, Tyler envisions a career working alongside smallholder farmers and Indigenous communities to transition away from chemically intensive practices and toward diverse, resilient agroecosystems. Catherine Brist is a PhD candidate in the joint program in English and women’s and gender studies at University of Michigan College of Literature, Science, and the Arts. As a new mother, Catherine shows extraordinary persistence in completing her PhD as she cares for her infant daughter, Rosie. Her research examines contemporary readers’ responses to texts that defy cultural norms dictating how survivors talk about trauma. Catherine’s work seeks to expand the kinds of stories women are culturally authorized to tell about their experiences. CEW+ celebrates Catherine’s outstanding mentorship and names her a Gail Allen Scholar.

Takreed Ali is earning her master’s degree in nutritional science from the University of Michigan School of Public Health. A passionate advocate for equitable access to nutrition, Takreed draws from a rich blend of academic, professional, and personal experiences that shape her work. Takreed’s future goal is to become a registered dietitian working at the intersection of clinical and community care. She aims to develop early childhood nutrition programs, combat food insecurity, and create culturally responsive health education tools. In the long term, she hopes to contribute to international humanitarian nutrition efforts that promote food sustainability and reduce malnutrition in low-resource settings. CEW+ honors Takreed’s dedication to making nutrition more inclusive and names her an Irma M. Wyman Scholar.
