Thank you to everyone who joined us last week! To start off our meeting we were fortunate to have Anne Perigo from the Zell Lurie Institute come speak about the entrepreneurship opportunities on campus. Following her speech, our members broke into teams of 5 and developed ideas for entrepreneurial solutions to problems they face on campus. We hope to see you all next week for the presentations!

We’re so glad that so many of you could make it to the kickoff meeting for this year’s entrepreneurial challenge! After a brief market update, we had the pleasure of video chatting with Mike Townsend, founder and COO of HomeHero. As a winner of Forbes 30 Under 30 and various other acclaimed recognitions, Mike offered us an overview of how to run a successful startup, touching on everything from formulating an original idea to acquiring the funding necessary to get your business off the ground. You can find pictures from this meeting below.

Thank you all for coming out to our meeting this Sunday discussing the financial market. After being introduced to how stocks work, we all took part in the Stock Investment Competition and were able to get a first-hand look on how stock investing really works. Our market updates this week:
-Japan's Nikkei Index fell 11% this week and has fallen nearly 25% since Nov. 20. This raises major questions for Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's growth plan, "Abenomics."
- Time Inc. acquired Vint Technology, the owner of MySpace.
Next week you can look forward to participating in the more intense investment competition where winners will receive CASH PRIZES! See you all next Sunday.

Here are a couple of pictures from our kickoff meeting last week.

For those who missed it, Japan cut their key interest rates into negative territory in an attempt to boost inflation. This essentially means that banks can end up paying customers who borrow from them. This move also impacts the Fed's decision on interest rates in the foreseeable future. Thank you to everyone who attended our meeting this Sunday. Our panel of BBA students made for a great and collaborative meeting. Our market update highlights some of the major financial news from this past week:

- With the U.S. adding 211,000 new jobs in November, the Fed is expected to raise interest rates for the first time in nearly 10 years.

- IMF adds China’s RMB in benchmark Special Drawing Rights basket.

- Global mergers and acquisitions have reached over $4.3 trillion and U.S. M&A has topped $2 trillion, both records.

- Yahoo’s board is considering selling the company’s core Internet business and spinning off its stake in Alibaba.

- China will add a “circuit breaker” to their stock market in 2016. A 5% rise or fall will halt trading for 15 minutes and a 7% change will stop trading for the rest of the day.
