This Saturday's halftime performance by The University of Michigan Marching Band, “Blue Planet,” is a celebration of four global habitats of our planet earth, narrated by Carl Grapentine. As we visit the wild and beautiful jungles, savannas, vast oceans and sweeping deserts, we will perform medleys that include Guns N’ Roses “Welcome to the Jungle” (1987), The Jungle Book’s “The Bare Necessities” (1967), The Little Mermaid’s “Under the Sea” (1989), The Lion King’s “Circle of Life” (1994), and Toto’s “Africa” (1981). The show will conclude with music from the movie Lawrence of Arabia (1962), and the 1992 hit from Aladdin, “Prince Ali.”
Saturday’s performance features musical arrangements by Michigan alumnus and former MMB graduate assistant Dr. Andrew Putnam (M.Mus ‘10), drill by Dr. Chester Phillips, with percussion arrangements by the Marching Band’s Percussion Instructor and Assistant Instructor, Professor Chuck Ricotta and Nigel Fernandez, respectively, along with flag choreography by Flag Instructor, Professor Joan Noble-Pruett.
