Cal Poly Humboldt Department of Fisheries Biology Our Fisheries Biology programs balance classroom learning with practical experience in the field and

HSU Fisheries professors have a hands-on, field oriented educational philosophy. Few academic programs provide such a strong interplay between classroom theory and field laboratory practice. An on-campus fish hatchery, a marine laboratory, and a 90' ocean-going vessel are integral features of our instructional program.

There's something fishy going on!
Lily Olmo, whose study as a Fisheries Biology Masters student of the fish in Klopp Lake and Brackish Pond inspired this new sign, came to visit. We celebrated its installation with Mark and Sydney Larson, who funded the project. Thank you all!
Check it out at the northeast corner of Klopp Lake, under the Monterey Pine. Don't forget to look for otters.

Check out the new publication from Humboldt fisheries graduate student Chris O'Keefe and professor Darren Ward. They evaluated the jumping abilities of juvenile steelhead trout to help identify the types of structures that could limit fish movement. The take home message? These little fish can really fly!
