Our journalism program provides students the knowledge and skills to navigate the ever-changing world impacted by social media more than ever. We offer concentrations in news and public relations. Get hands-on training in video and audio production, photojournalism, web building, graphic design, strategic campaigning and more. Ok, we aren’t tricksy Shakespearean witches. Faculty, students and friends are brewing up tasty concoctions for this year’s Spooky Soup and costume contest 11:30-1 pm Oct. 29 at Bret Harte House.
So free lunch and a chance to win a handcrafted ceramic monster. You don’t have to dress up but, hey, why not? Alumni welcome.

The 2026 Distinguished Alumni celebrations with Meg Godlewski & Scottie Lee Meyers were fantastic! JMC hosted a lovely mixer in Bret Harte House where current students had the opportunity to mingle with our fabulous alumni. Then we had the honor of attending the Forever Humboldt Distinguished Alumni Awards Banquet with family and friends. What a treat!

1) Meg Godlewski will be giving a talk from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM in Gist Hall 215.

2) Mix & mingle with JMC alumni, students & faculty at Bret Harte House from 12:30 to 1:30 PM. Free snacks & refreshments provided.

3) Scottie Lee Meyers will be giving a talk from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM in Gist Hall 218.

Sukey Lewis (one of our fabulous Journalism lecturers) recently produced an audio story for KQED’s Snap Judgement about elementary students experiencing a harrowing whale encounter in Trinidad on their school field trip. 🐋🌊
Sukey is currently teaching a Media Ethics course this semester and has taught Crime & Justice Reporting in the department.
