Established in 1890, Henderson has focused on developing excellent undergraduate curricula in the arts and sciences. Strong undergraduate and graduate programs in business and education, and undergraduate programs in aviation and nursing, make Henderson a standout institution. Most courses are taught by full-time faculty with a terminal degree. Henderson’s unique, high-quality programs include the
state’s only baccalaureate degree aviation program and the only four-year professional nursing program in southwest Arkansas. Substantial investments in these programs have produced a maintenance training flight hangar with 10 briefing rooms, a 16-plane aviation training fleet and a new nursing facility with a high-tech simulator lab. Other Henderson assets include a growing Honors College and a first-rate business program at the BBA and MBA levels. Serving more than 3,500 students, the university achieves superior instruction while being known as the “School with a Heart.”
Recognized as one of the most attractive campuses in Arkansas, the Henderson campus features modern brick academic and residential buildings connected by landscaped pedestrian malls. Student housing options include co-ed suite-style units, traditional-style units and apartments. The Dunn Student Recreation Center, which features a climbing wall and a state-of-the-art weight room, was designed to accommodate students’ increasing interest in health and wellness. The facility was recently cited for Outstanding Design in the Sports Stadiums/Athletic Facilities category of American School & University magazine’s Architectural Portfolio. The Simonson Biological Field Station, a research facility with residential capabilities located on Lake DeGray, opened in spring 2012. A new 20,000-square-foot dining facility opened in summer 2013.
