Why did you choose MU- what stuck out to you about MU?
I chose Marymount University because of its amazing reputation and quality of professors. MU is one of the top universities for Forensic and Legal Psychology, which made me feel confident that I would get the best education and experience. What stuck out to me most is how welcoming the school made me feel- at my program orientation I was mesmerized by the guest speakers and was provided the chance to speak with professors who would be teaching my classes along with current graduate students.
Why did you apply to the GSA program?
I applied to the Graduate Student Ambassador program because I wanted to become connected to my university. In undergraduate I was involved in many leadership roles and had the chance to meet new peers and network with faculty so I knew that becoming an ambassador would allow me to do this at Marymount. Also, I wanted to learn more about what MU has to offer and to be given the chance to show prospective students how great the university is.
What’s helpful about taking a tour of MU?
Taking a tour of main campus and the Ballston location allowed me to understand what resources are available while attending Marymount and whom I can ask if I ever need anything. As a commuter graduate student I do not always have the luxury to hang out on campus so knowing the layout of both MU campuses lets me know what resources are available and where.
What do you love about MU and its resources available?
My favorite thing about MU is how willing the faculty and staff is to help students. I have created great relationships with my professors and feel comfortable walking into any building and asking for help. MU has resources available for any type of situation and if they are not able to answer your question they will put you in contact with someone who can.
Tips for applying/what to do before you decide on a school
Don’t be afraid to apply! Graduate school is the time when you get to really focus on what you want to do as a career and the experiences you gain will leave lasting impressions. The admissions process may look scary, and believe me I was hesitant to apply to schools myself, but MU looks beyond the application and cares about who attends their university.
