Reproducible Workflows with Open Water Data:
NASA, NOAA, USGS River Data Access

If you are interested in usinge federal water data in your research, you’re invited to join this pilot course on reproducible workflows with NASA, NOAA, and USGS river data. Registration is $160 to $400 and closes October 23.

Who Should Attend:
This course is designed for graduate students, postdocs, early-career researchers, and professionals who use federal water data in their research and have basic experience using Python.

Format:
The course will consist of live virtual training sessions coupled with asynchronous assignments, totaling 20 hours of participation. Participants who complete the course and successfully demonstrate their understanding will receive a certificate of completion.

Registration is open for a new pilot program! Register by October 23 for the CUAHSI Skills Certificate Pilot - Reproducible Workflows with Open Water Data: NASA, NOAA, USGS River Data Access

The program takes place from November 3 to December 4, 2026 with virtual and live sessions.

This Python-based course builds data literacy skills for programmatically accessing datasets from NASA, NOAA, and USGS, and understanding the strengths of each in water research applications. This pilot course has been developed with the recommendations of the data providers themselves.

This pilot training course will cover the following data sets:
- NASA Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT)
- NOAA National Water Model (NWM)
- USGS Water Data for the Nation (WDFN)

Poster proposals for the inaugural Water Science Exchange are due October 21.

Share your research with up to 100 attendees at the poster session, November 12-14 at the University of Missouri. Posters are welcome from all attendees, and undergraduate and graduate students are especially encouraged to present.

Posters may address topics related to the water science community or the event theme, Working in Water Landscapes.

Students and postdocs presenting a poster receive preference for CUAHSI travel stipends of up to $600.

- Skill-Building Workshops: Hands-on sessions using multi-agency water data from NOAA, USGS, and NASA, plus cloud computing and open data publishing on HydroShare.
- Special Topics Forum on AI in the Water Sciences: Jordan Read, CUAHSI CEO, presents on AI in modeling and collaboration, followed by interactive discussions.
- Poster Session: Attendees present research to up to 100 participants across career stages.
- Field Trips: Site tours of the Central Mississippi River Basin LTAR site and the Missouri Ozarks AmeriFlux (MOFLUX) site.
- Networking: Connections among students, faculty, agency scientists, and practitioners.

Travel stipends
A limited number of travel stipends are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Preference is given to students and postdocs presenting a poster. To request a stipend, indicate this when registering, and CUAHSI staff will follow up.
