We are celebrating an important milestone!

One year after becoming the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) Hub Chair for Sustainable Development Goal 16, the Carter School is helping connect universities, students, researchers, practitioners, and policymakers around the world in support of peace, justice, and strong institutions.

Over the past year, the School has strengthened international partnerships, supported student leadership, and created new opportunities for collaboration across borders and disciplines. One standout example was the SDG 16 Graduate Student Research Symposium, which brought together 36 graduate researchers from 19 universities worldwide.

As we continue this work, we're proud to demonstrate how higher education can help address today's most pressing global challenges.

As communities and institutions confront growing polarization, conflict, displacement, environmental pressures, and rapid technological change, the ways we understand and build peace are being tested. So, where do we go from here? 🕊️🌍

Join us for Fall 2026 Peace Week: Peacemaking and Peacebuilding in a Fragmented World, September 21–25, 2026.

This year, Peace Week is presented under the umbrella of the Carter School’s United Nations Academic Impact Sustainable Development Goal 16 (SDG 16) Hub, connecting our conversations to the global effort to advance peace, justice, inclusion, and strong institutions.

Throughout the week, scholars, practitioners, policymakers, students, and community leaders will come together to explore dialogue across political and social divides, trust and institutional resilience, community-based peacebuilding, global perspectives on conflict and mediation, and new approaches to building more peaceful and inclusive societies.

At a moment of deep fragmentation, Peace Week asks an urgent question: What will it take to rebuild trust, strengthen our communities and institutions, and create the conditions for sustainable peace?
