Way to go, Ashley! We are so proud of you and know you’re going to be an excellent teacher 🍎🎓
The countdown is on!
We're celebrating the many students who will join us for our new teacher Pinning Celebration on Thursday or walk the stage for The University of Texas at Arlington commencement on Friday!
Among the graduates is Ashley Kevil, a senior graduating with her bachelor's degree and teacher certification in EC-6 ESL. Ashley is also one of the few Education majors who is also student in the UT Arlington Honors College! For her Honors' capstone, she chose to implement a writing workshop to study its impact on a student.
"I had learned about the writing workshop approach as a coaching method to teaching writing in Dr. Kathleen Tice’s 4376 lecture and was curious to the efficiency of a writing workshop."
Working with an elementary child over a period 11 weeks, Ashley says she saw noticeable improvement in a child who once considered writing to be "boring."
"The student moved from relying on pictures to convey details in a story that would be one paragraph long, to writing multiple pages for one story, each story structured with a beginning, middle, and end. By the last session he told his friends they should try writing sometime because it is fun," she said.
Ashley adds that she's passed her certification exams and hopes to join her sister, Jenica Kevil, in Arlington I.S.D.
