Field work started this week in our fall semester meteorology courses! The Meteorological Instruments class conducted a site survey and hosted Assistant State Climatologist Sean Heuser during a visit to the UNC Asheville weather station. Dr. Miller's Introduction to Weather and Climate Lab class also worked outside to measure solar positions on the quad.

Our annual weather camp (Meteorology Pre-College Program) for high school students was a huge success this year! Campers built research-grade weather stations, visited local ABC affiliate WLOS and the National Centers for Environmental Information, conducted atmospheric experiments along the Blue Ridge Parkway all the way to the summit of Mt. Mitchell, filmed original broadcast videos in our television studio, analyzed their own data, and learned all about meteorology from our expert professors. Our students had a busy week!

Suspecting that our rain gauge wasn't properly measuring the rain, Dr. Godfrey visited the weather station today and found the funnel full of water! It seems something took up residence in the outlet during the recent dry spell and clogged it up. Future rainfall measurements should be more accurate.

Our weather forecasters brought home the To***co Cup! This trophy goes to the North Carolina meteorology program that performs best overall in the WxChallenge collegiate weather forecasting competition over the course of the year. Congratulations to our amazing meteorology students and faculty!
