Congratulations to Senior Lecturer Michael Gouge of UNC Asheville’s Department of Mass Communication on receiving the Teaching Excellence Award in the Social Sciences.

As advisor to The Blue Banner, Michael has guided student journalists to earn more awards than any other student newspaper in its category while mentoring students through hands-on reporting, media ethics, and journalism education.

We are proud to celebrate this well-deserved recognition and grateful for the impact he continues to make on our students and department. 👏

Today is UNC Asheville's Day of Giving, and I invite you to support the Department of Mass Communication.

As an alumnus or a friend of the Department of Mass Communication, you know students learn best by doing. Whether it’s attending conferences, participating in media workshops, traveling for film and journalism projects, or connecting with industry professionals, these are the moments where learning truly comes alive. Such experiences build confidence, sharpen skills, and often shape career paths.

Your donation can make a meaningful difference. $10 or $20 can help cover something as simple but essential as a student’s breakfast or lunch while traveling to a conference. These contributions add up quickly and help remove barriers so more students can say yes to opportunities beyond the classroom.

If you believe in preparing the next generation of reporters, communicators, storytellers, please consider giving by clicking on https://www.givecampus.com/s/yvqkdf (P.S. You can still give using this link after Day of Giving!)

Thank you for supporting our students.

Tonight on campus: Hannah Arendt: Facing Tyranny - Please join us!

This documentary invites us into one of the most challenging questions of our time—and any time:
How do ordinary people become part of harmful systems?

Through the work of political thinker Hannah Arendt, the film explores the idea that the greatest danger is not always obvious evil, but the absence of critical thinking, reflection, and moral judgment. What does it mean to think responsibly in a complex world?

Grateful for opportunities like this that bring students, faculty, and community together around ideas that matter.
