Neumann University takes on Bethlehem Farm, WV!
Over spring break, a group of 10 consisting of students, staff, and faculty from NU traveled to Bethlehem Farm in Alderson, West Virginia to serve the local Appalachian community. During the week, we embraced the Farm’s four pillars:

🙏 Prayer
🌱 Simplicity
🤝 Community
🔨 Service

Each day we stepped away from our normal routines and leaned into a simpler way of living, sharing meals, reflecting in prayer, building community, and serving at local work sites. Through these experiences, we saw how Neumann’s RISES Values and the teachings of St. Francis and St. Clare of Assisi can be lived out in everyday actions.
By using our talents, skills, and willingness to help, we were able to make a positive impact in the surrounding Appalachia community while learning about gratitude, faith, and service.

Along the way, new friendships were formed (human and donkey😉), memories were made, and our appreciation for community and service grew deeper.

Thank you to the Neumann University Campus Ministry department and Neumann University for making this trip possible 💙💛

Charter Day is this Friday.

This week we’ve been looking back at the founding moments of our university. Today’s photo captures another scene from the 1964 groundbreaking of Our Lady of Angels College.

Before any classrooms were built, before the first students arrived, the Sisters of St. Francis gathered here with a vision for what this place could become.

In the address given that day, the moment was described in a powerful way:

“A true sense of history generates always a sense of hope. We have come this far because past generations dared to dream, to hope.”

Standing in that field, the sisters and community members present were doing exactly that — daring to hope for a new Catholic college that would serve generations to come.

As we continue this week of remembering our beginnings, we prepare to celebrate the mission that grew from that hope.

Join us as we celebrate Charter Day this Friday.

Charter Day is this Friday.

All week we’re sharing photos from the earliest moments of our university’s story. Today’s image shows part of the blessing of the ground at the 1964 groundbreaking for Our Lady of Angels College.

Before any building could rise, the land itself was blessed — a reminder that this college was meant to be more than a campus. It was meant to be a mission.

In the address that day, those gathered were reminded that what was happening here was part of something much larger. As the homily put it:

“The soil turned here today… stems directly from the gentle hand of your patron.”

In other words, this moment was connected to the Franciscan tradition itself — to the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi and the mission of the Sisters who founded this place.

From this blessed ground grew the university we celebrate today.

We’ll keep sharing these early moments throughout the week as we prepare to celebrate Charter Day this Friday.

Charter Day is this Friday.

In 1964, when the ground was broken for what would become Neumann University, the question from the Gospel was asked: “Where is your faith?”

The Sisters of St. Francis answered with courage and hope, beginning a college rooted in faith, learning, and service.

All week we’ll be sharing photos from that groundbreaking moment in our history as we count down to Charter Day.

Join us this Friday as we celebrate the vision that started it all.
