The Institute of Women’s Studies and the Women’s Studies Student Organization condemn the recent attacks against people of Asian descent that took place this past Tuesday in Georgia. As an executive board led predominantly by Asian women, we are deeply affected by the tragedy of this mass shooting that murdered 8 Asian people, 6 of whom were Asian women. IWS’s full statement can be read in the attached pictures.

WSSO is committed to continuing to learn and act as allies to the AAPI community. AAPI folks are our leaders, our friends, and human beings. We stand with you.

If you’re looking for a space to discuss these recent events and/or learn more about Asian American feminism, WSSO is holding a joint meeting with NAPAWF Atlanta & UGA's Filipino Student Association tonight (March 18th) at 7 p.m. The link to RSVP is in our bio.

The exec and outreach team at WSSO are extremely horrified and sad about what happened last night in Atlanta, as we are sure the rest of y’all are and we are still quite in shock about what’s happening so close to our own homes. We deeply mourn and grieve the 8 Asian lives lost in the mass shooting in Atlanta yesterday. WSSO denounces all forms of hate, violence, and discrimination, including Anti-Asian racism, sinophobia, and misogyny against Asian women. We also support and ally ourselves with the Asian students, faculty, and staff at the University of Georgia.

Join us this Thursday, March 18 at 7 p.m. for our joint meeting with & . We hope this meeting can serve as a healing space as we discuss Anti-Asian racism, Asian American feminism, and ways for you to support the Asian community in Atlanta.

For this meeting, please RSVP using the link in our bio. We hope to see you there!

We hope everyone, especially in the Asian community, is taking care of themselves right now. WSSO sends lots of love 💕

This includes...

✔️and many steps you can take to fight racism here at UGA

This post is not comprehensive, but just what we were able to cover over the course of one general body meeting. We recommend looking into all of these topics yourself, too! Anti-racism is ongoing work.
