We invite everyone to join us for the University of Georgia School of Law's annual Georgia Journal of International & Comparative Law conference on Friday, September 18th, starting at 9am EST. There is an in-person and virtual attendance option, and CLE credit is available.

This year's conference theme is: Technology, Accountability, and Criminality in Transnational and International Conflict (TACTIC). TACTIC will examine how modern conflict is reshaping the relationships among state power, technological systems, and legal accountability. Analyzing international law, technology law, and criminal law, the symposium will consider how contemporary conflicts expose pressure points in the rules-based international order, the governance of digital platforms and algorithmic systems, and the mechanisms available when states or individual actors violate legal norms.

This year's conference is co-sponsored by The Georgia Journal of Law and Technology (GJOLT), The Georgia Criminal Law Review (GCLR), and the Dean Rusk International Law Center.

The Dean Rusk International Law Center is proud to welcome another class of talented lawyers, now studying for our University of Georgia School of Law Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree.

The class of 2027 includes thirteen students hailing from thirteen countries across five continents, including Türkiye, Egypt, Indonesia, China, Germany, Dominican Republic, Belarus, Australia, South Korea, Switzerland, Chile, the United Kingdom, and Ukraine. Among them are lawyers specializing in a wide range of fields including criminal law, intellectual property, cross-border compliance, mergers and acquisitions, international development, corporate law, administrative law, constitutional law, international arbitration, and contracts.

University of Georgia School of Law Professor Christian Turner visited the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs in Tbilisi, Georgia, to train faculty and staff in artificial intelligence and assist with the development of a framework to govern AI policy and usage at the university. The week-long trip was made possible by the University Capacity Building Program, administered by American Councils for International Education and funded by the U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi.

NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS: Louis B. Sohn Professional Development Fellowships, Fall 2026

The University of Georgia School of Law's Dean Rusk International Law Center is proud to offer competitive Louis B. Sohn Professional Development Fellowships to offset the costs of travel and lodging associated with attending a conference or participating in a professional development opportunity related to international law.

For fall 2026, students can apply to attend one of the following professional conferences:
1. Atlanta International Arbitration Society AtlAS Annual Conference | October 1-2 | Atlanta, GA | Reimbursement up to $300
2. American Branch of the International Law Association (ABILA) International Law Weekend | October 22-24 | New York City, NY | Reimbursement up to $800
3. ASIL Midyear Meeting | November 5-7 | Santa Clara, CA | Reimbursement up to $800

Students may also propose to use the funds for another professional development opportunity related to international law. Details and requirements can be found in the application.

What a pleasure it was to welcome the University of Georgia School of Law’s Master of Laws (LL.M.) class of 2027 to the Dean Rusk International Law Center today!

Every year during orientation, we invite recent LL.M. graduates and current J.D. students involved in International Law Society and the Georgia Journal of International and Comparative Law to speak with our incoming LL.M. class in the Louis B. Sohn Library on International Relations. Not only does this meeting provide our incoming class with words of wisdom and concrete resources to aid in their academic success over the upcoming nine months, but it’s also the foundation for lifelong professional networks and friendships.

Sarah Quinn, director of the University of Georgia School of Law’s Dean Rusk International Law Center, was selected for the Council on Foreign Relations Relations Higher Education Ambassador Program.

The CFR Education Ambassador program is an eight-month engagement that connects educators across the country with free educational resources, professional development activities, and a vibrant network of like-minded professionals who are committed to equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and perspective to navigate today’s connected world. The program is led by CFR Education, the educational arm of the Council on Foreign Relations, which helps high school and higher education students understand and engage with today’s most pressing global issues.

Quinn is the fourth member of the Georgia Law community in recent years to be affiliated with the Council on Foreign Relations. Regents’ Professor Emerita & Emily and Ernest Woodruff Chair in International Law Emerita Diane Marie Amann was elected to the Council in 2021; Talmadge Chair of Law and former Dean Peter B. “Bo” Rutledge was elected to the Council in 2024; and Georgia Law alumna and Rusk Council Advisory Member Chanel Chauvet-Maldonado (J.D. ’18) joined the Council as a Term Member earlier this year.
