We are SO proud of our Vice Wing Commander! AS400 Cadet and first-generation college student Deborah Swegan is one of the few ROTC cadets nationwide to be awarded a scholarship from the Health Professions Scholarship Program. This scholarship will cover all medical school tuition and fees and provide her with a $33,000 annual salary. In addition to her ROTC duties, Cadet Swegan is majoring in Pre-Med Biology with a minor in Aerospace Studies while working as a research assistant at Kopchick Laboratory. Detachment 650 is proud to call her one of our own 🐾

A few of our Bobcats got to participate in some exciting Air Force-sponsored events this summer! This month, we want to share some of their stories about their experiences with you. To kick us off, here is Cadet Whitt's retelling of her Ops Air Force visit to Holloman AFB, New Mexico!

"We got to meet with the MQ-9 and F-16 pilots and see both aircraft. We also heard briefs from several AFSCs including: firefighters, contracting, civil engineers, medical, and several others. We even got to go off-base and visit White Sands National Park! Ops Air Force was truly an amazing experience and I'm so thankful to have received the opportunity. I learned so many new things about different careers in the Air Force and it even helped me find an AFSC I would love to pursue."

Look out next week for another fun opportunity AFROTC cadets can be a part of!

Over the past week, C/Anderson and C/Swegan were given the opportunity to listen to some of the most influential military and industry leaders today such as General Charles Q Brown, General Van Ovost, Ms. Charlene Wheeless, Ms. Kathy Buckley, and many more! NCLS gave these two cadets the tools to bring Ethics and Human Dignity training back to their detachment to share with their peers. Amazing opportunity for our future leaders!

Det 650 Special Operations Forces Training Program (SOFTP) mission is to prepare cadets for Air Force special warfare Phase 2 assessments through rigorous physical training and leadership opportunities. At the beginning of every semester SOFTP holds tryouts for interested candidates. Candidates are assessed on recent FA scores and a performance based gauntlet designed to expose a candidates mental and physical resiliency.

Pictured are a few of the seven cadets who were assessed this semester. During the gauntlet they completed a 20yd 100lb sled push followed by a 150yd sprint, a 100yd bear crawl, a 20yd 100lb sled pull, and a 100yd sand bag carry. The land portion is followed by a 12min swim and 5min of treading water. -C/Brad Cavalo SOF Training Commander
