On Wednesday, May 30, 2007, Texas Game Warden Teyran “Ty” Patterson paid the ultimate sacrifice while attempting to recover the body of a drowning victim from Paluxy River floodwaters in Somervell County.
While working with his partner near the FM 205 bridge, their boat capsized, throwing both wardens into the water. Warden Patterson heroically assisted his partner to safety as he struggled to stay afloat. Both wardens were transported to a hospital in Fort Worth, where Warden Patterson was pronounced deceased. His partner survived but suffered near-drowning injuries.
Warden Patterson earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Texas State University, was a graduate of the 51st Texas Game Warden Academy and had proudly served with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for two years, stationed in Johnson County.
His selflessness and dedication exemplify the courage and sacrifice of Texas Game Wardens. Warden Patterson’s memory and legacy of service continue to inspire and honor the mission he so deeply believed in.
