On Wednesday, May 30, 2007, Texas Game Warden Teyran “Ty” Patterson paid the ultimate sacrifice while attempting to recover the body of a drowning victim from Paluxy River floodwaters in Somervell County.

While working with his partner near the FM 205 bridge, their boat capsized, throwing both wardens into the water. Warden Patterson heroically assisted his partner to safety as he struggled to stay afloat. Both wardens were transported to a hospital in Fort Worth, where Warden Patterson was pronounced deceased. His partner survived but suffered near-drowning injuries.

Warden Patterson earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Texas State University, was a graduate of the 51st Texas Game Warden Academy and had proudly served with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for two years, stationed in Johnson County.

His selflessness and dedication exemplify the courage and sacrifice of Texas Game Wardens. Warden Patterson’s memory and legacy of service continue to inspire and honor the mission he so deeply believed in.

SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

A memorial service/celebration of life for Deputy Bill Hardin will be held at the Chisholm Trail Outdoor Museum (101 Chisholm Trail, Cleburne, TX 76033) on Saturday February 25th at 1:00 PM. The service is open to the public.

It is with great sadness we announce the loss of a great friend, brother, and lawman.
Deputy Bill Hardin passed away today surrounded by friends and love ones. He was 99 years old.

Bill started his police career on 2/1/1947 with the Fort Worth Police Dept. He worked for Tarrant County Sheriffs Office, and then here at Johnson County Sheriffs Office for the last 28 years.

Bill was a true living legend. The oldest and longest running Peace Officer in the world. But more than that he was our brother and our friend. Bill never failed to share his knowledge with our new deputies and was always ready with a handshake and a smile.

His presence within the walls of this agency will be truly missed. But his legacy will never be forgotten.

Rest easy Bill. We will take the watch from here.
