Congratulations to John Sabraw, professor of painting and drawing, for being named a May Faculty Newsmaker! 🖌️ 👏

“My focus is always on the students.”

After spending the past two decades introducing world music curriculum to the Ohio University School of Music, Dr. Paschal Yao Younge is now looking forward to retirement. 💚

His curriculum stemmed from his childhood in Dzodze, a village in Ghana, and he taught students not only the technique and history behind the drums they were playing, but also fundamental lessons about performing and the atmosphere around it.

He brought world music to not just his classroom but to Athens, too, as he directed the Global Arts Festival for the eighth time this year.

Before leaving, he also donated several of his personal percussion instruments for students to use. 🎶

Earlier this spring, OHIO welcomed the Honorable Abla Dzifa Gomashie as the 2026 OHIO Global Arts Festival keynote speaker.

She is the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts in Ghana as well as a Member of Parliament for Ketu South Constituency, Volta Region, Republic of Ghana. In her speech, she explored the intersections of art, culture and innovation. 🇬🇭
