The arts benefit us in many ways - individual preference and experiences matter, but it is also good to try new ways of creating. Engaging creatively in music, dance, visual arts, theater, film, or nature allows us to better regulate our systems on multiple levels. Engaging in the arts and nature with others helps us to feel more connected and a better sense of belonging.

We are excited to have co-created, and continue to develop, the Bobcat ArtsCare program with Well-Being & Recreation and Counseling, with support from Counseling & Psychological Services and the Bobcat ArtsCare Advisory Group.

Athens City-County Health Department staff explored the powerful connection between art and health during a visit to the Trisolini Gallery during National Public Health Week.

The exhibition, Soft Repairs by Madelyn Bartolone, examines craft as a form of healing and self-reflection. Rooted in concepts of art therapy and diary quilting, the exhibit offers a meaningful reminder that healing isn’t always linear—and that creativity can be a valuable tool for processing experiences and fostering resilience.

Experiences like this help us think more broadly about health, wellness, and the many ways our community can support both.
