🎵 From the classroom to the recording studio

Recent Athens State graduate Jenny Burns is turning her passion for music into a career. As a May 2026 graduate of our Music Industry Studies program, Jenny wrote and produced an original song while collaborating with talented local musicians Kelly Joyner and James Parker, who brought her creative vision to life through performance.

Jenny's journey showcases the power of creativity, collaboration, and hands-on learning that defines the Athens State experience. We are proud to celebrate her accomplishments and look forward to seeing where her talent and dedication take her next.

The Alabama Center for the Arts is seeking adventurous, collaborative performers for our upcoming production, Alice by Heart, running July 16-19!
Set in war-torn London, Alice By Heart follows a young woman who escapes into the world of Wonderland as she navigates love, grief, fear, joy, and the power of imagination. Filled with beautiful music, humor, and heart, this is a story about discovering who you are beyond the looking glass.

We strongly encourage performers of all races, ethnicities, gender identities, body types, abilities, neurotypes, and experience levels to audition. Auditions are open to both students and community members.🏳️‍🌈🦄⚡️🎶Ages 16+

💪 Train. Learn. Evolve.

The Decatur Police Department is offering a Women’s Self Defense course designed to empower women and girls ages 12 and up with practical safety and self defense skills.

📅 May 25–27
⏰ Session 1: 12 PM–3 PM
⏰ Session 2: 4 PM–7 PM

Participants will complete a 9 hour course focused on awareness, confidence, and personal protection.

An optional “Replicating Adverse Dynamics” simulation course will also be available on May 28.
