The Department of Infectious Diseases is home to over 30 faculty involved in the central missions of the University of Georgia: research, teaching, and service. Our extramurally supported research efforts encompass all aspects of infectious diseases with strengths in immunology, vaccinology, drug discovery, and investigation of host pathogen interactions. Faculty in infectious diseases have numerous collaborations with other departments at UGA, and are affiliated with several prominent research centers and institutes on campus. In addition, several of our faculty also fulfill service missions in veterinary diagnostic labs at the Athens and Tifton campuses, providing expertise in infectious disease diagnosis.
With a focus on cutting edge techniques and both basic and translation science, we provide a superb training environment for postdoctoral fellows. Our teaching mission is fulfilled through instruction in undergraduate, graduate, and veterinary professional courses. Our graduate program has grown to over 45 doctoral students, working with state-of-the-art instruments and advanced facilities such as the Animal Health Research Center, one of the most advanced biocontainment facilities located on a university campus.
