Aces for Athens

Aces for Athens Welcome to the Aces for Athens page. Please visit AcesforAthens.org for more information.

Aces for Athens is a student-run organization of the University of Georgia dedicated to mentoring and educating local special-needs and elementary students through the sport of tennis. As an organization, we understand the importance of role models in a child’s development and aim to support and engage these children outside of their classroom environments. We have several volunteer opportunities

for students during the week and on the weekends. We have two after-school lessons per week at Oglethorpe Elementary School in Athens (Monday and Thursday 3 - 4pm) and have an evening and a weekend time for Special Needs lessons. Check out our website (acesforathens.org) for more information, links to background checks, and the option to add yourself to our listserv!

Hi, it’s us again!

We hope y’all have had a great school year so far, and while we are all disappointed lessons aren’t able to happen this semester, we still have one bonding opportunity for our coaches.

On Wednesday, Oct. 28 from 7-9pm, we are hosting a fall social at the Intramural Courts ( #10-13). Face coverings will be required, and there will be no refreshments (but feel free to bring your own!). We are also organizing t-shirts for this semester, so if you are interested in purchasing one (approx. $10), please fill out the Google Form, which is linked in our bio. The t-shirt design can be seen on the second slide of this post.

If you have any questions, feel free to DM us. We hope to see y’all there for a fun, socially distanced event! @ UGA Intramural Tennis Courts

In addition to the cancellation of our doubles tournament, our Special Needs Clinic has been canceled, and tennis lessons at the elementary schools have been postponed until further notice.

Sorry everyone, but thank you all for a great semester of lessons! Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns — hopefully, we'll see you all soon!

Stay safe,

Aces Exec

*TOURNAMENT UPDATE (3/18)*
To attendees and sponsors —

Unfortunately, due to extenuating circumstances from the COVID-19 outbreak, we as the Aces for Athens executive board have made the difficult decision to cancel Aces for Athens’ Spring 2020 Doubles Tournament. With instruction moving online for the remainder of the semester and CDC recommendations to maintain social distancing, we thought it was necessary to cancel the event on April 11.

We are considering moving the tournament to a later date — some time in the Fall 2020 semester — however, we are still developing plans and monitoring the situation as we move on. Please keep an eye out on our social media pages () and/or our website (acesforathens.com) for any updates!

For attendees who have already Venmo’d us and registered, we will be refunding your payments in full. Please allow a few days for us to complete that transaction.

For our sponsors who have already committed, thank you so much for your generosity in supporting our organization and the tournament. We will be back in contact in the fall or for next year’s tournament.

As always, please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. Again, we apologize for the cancellation — given the current circumstances, we felt this was the most responsible decision, and we hope you all understand.

Stay safe everyone!

Our Special Needs Clinic on Friday was a success! We practiced forehands, backhands, Simon Says, and lava with the kids. Thanks to all our volunteers who braved the last day of 90-degree weather -- the kids had a blast!

Here they are - better late than never, right? Sorry for the delay, but hopefully everyone enjoys them! If there is a picture you like and you would like the original (the pictures on Facebook get a little blurry), please DM this page, and I will send it to you!

Thanks again to everyone who attended our tournament - we had a blast, and we can't wait for next year!

(P.S. - If you see your friend in any of these pictures, please tag or send these to them!)
