Phi Kappa Psi UGA

Phi Kappa Psi UGA Georgia Alpha chapter at the University of Georgia. Founded nationally in 1852; chartered locally in 1976. Live Ever, Die Never.

Phi Kappa Psi is a prominent social fraternity founded in 1852 at Jefferson College in Pennsylvania. On a national level, Phi Kappa Psi has a large base of support and the largest endowment fund of any national fraternity. Through the endowment fund, over $250,000 in scholarships are available for deserving brothers in and out of the classroom. The Georgia Alpha Chapter at UGA was founded on Novem

ber 20, 1976. Over the past 30 plus years, our chapter has seen many changes, but our brotherhood and reputation have always remained intact as true gentlemen of integrity. As Phi Psi, we offer you a chance to grow as a person while making friends and memories that will last long after your collegiate experience has ended. Each year, our chapter participates in many campus activities and philanthropies such as IM sports during every season, Dance Marathon, UGA Heroes, and Relay for Life. While we have very successful and active brothers dedicated to the fraternity and campus organizations such as IFC, Order of Omega, and UGA Heroes, our current growth has propelled us to still maintain a full social calendar throughout the fall and spring semesters. In the fall, we celebrate each UGA Football game with an all day tailgate and host our annual Parent's Weekend and Chartering Banquet. In the spring, we travel to a destination in the southeast for our annual Jacqueminot Rose Ball as well as throwing the annual Phi Psi Oasis party, which is one of the biggest parties at UGA. Along with these major events, we have many socials, date nights, and band parties throughout the year. Phi Psi offers you a change to learn valuable leadership skills and grow academically. Georgia Alpha has always had a strong academic reputation that continues today. On the leadership front, Phi Psi offers a unique experience that is unlike that of any other fraternity. Each year, brothers from around the country travel to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico to attend a leadership academy sponsored Ticketmaster founder and Phi Psi alumnus, Jerry Nelson. All you pay for is the airfare to and from Cabo. All hotel, food, and beverage costs are covered. Many brothers will tell you that their trips to Cabo have been the pinnacle of their experience in Phi Psi and have shaped them for the rest of their lives.

Dear Brothers:
2021 begins with wonderful news. In time for national founder’s day on February 19 2021, one of Georgia Alpha’s founding brothers, Bob Puechl, has created a scholarship.

The Puechl Family Annual Scholarship will be awarded to a sophomore, junior or senior with a 3.0 or above GPA. Other requirements include leadership, having a part time job and living in the house.

The $1,500 annual scholarship commences for the fall of 2021. The Housing Corporation will administer the scholarship and the process will begin this spring.
Give Bob a big thank you for this when you talk to him! He worked with the National Foundation and the Housing Corporation to make this happen!

The active chapter GPA was 3.34 for 37 men in the fall. That is an amazing GPA compared to my years in the early 80s. Eight of the men were on the Dean’s List in the fall.

In spite of the virus, the Chapter had a good fall & spring rush adding 20 men for the academic year. The men completed a big philanthropy project that provided backpacks with essential needs for 75 homeless people in Athens. Active brother, Andrew Benecchi, led the partnership with The Back Pack Project organization. This spring they hope to prepare a back pack of supplies for over 250 homeless people.

In January, alumni Ed Pinson, Tom Washburn and Richard Sheffield attended the chapter meeting to begin leadership training and planning for summer and fall. They are working with the active brothers and alumni to build an alumni mentor program for the chapter committee chairs like social, house, etc.

Several alumni have scheduled a tax deductible annual donation to the GA Housing Corporation through the foundation for every founder’s day. We hope you can join us and other brothers in supporting the chapter. Here is the link: https://www.pkpfoundation.org/make-an-impact/. Fill pull down menu with the Georgia Alpha Fund you want to support.

In October of this year we hope to build out the advisor corps and Housing Corporation with some new blood. We will need a few new members for each group.

We had a nice founder’s day celebration in 2020, no event planned this year. We hope we can return to a more normal time in 2022.

Your Brothers,
Wil Bosbyshell… Badge 63 HC President
Ed Pinson… Badge 120 Chapter Advisor
Trey Smith… Badge 543 Active Alumni Chair
