Very dry litter near evaporative cooling pads:
- Tunnel doors to improve air movement
- Controlling bird density with migration proper fence management
- Not over using evaporative cooling pads.... relying more on air speed than evaporative cooling pads to keep birds cool.
- Turning on evaporative cooling pads at around 85 F not 80 F

Exterior fan shutter retrofit. Though an improvement over traditional exterior louvered shutters, they were not without their issues (i.e., needed to be kept clean, problematic during cold weather, adversely affected by winds). Butterfly shutters were less problematic.

If you are thinking of upgrading your air speed and wondering how many fans you are going to have to add you might want to try using our Tunnel Air Speed/Static Pressure estimating spreadsheet. You put in information about the house and the existing fans and then input information about the new fans you want to add. The spreadsheet will estimate the resulting air speed and operating static pressure. Let me know if you have any questions or assistance.

Time to check your fan belts😀. Just because a belt is tight doesn’t mean you are not loosing fan performance. A fan belt should ride at the top of the motor pulley. The lower it rides in the motor pulley, the slower the prop will spin, and the lower the amount of air moved by the fan. At high operating static pressures it’s not uncommon for a fan to move 20% less air due to a worn belt.

Pulling air through a clean pad with water flowing over it is not significantly harder than pulling air through a dry pad 😀
