Student Merchandising Association

Student Merchandising Association SMA’s purpose is to provide students the opportunity to develop and enhance skills needed to obtain a career in the fashion industry.

SMA is an organization that uses all levels of business, marketing, merchandising, advertising, and public relations to explore both the business and creative side of fashion! The University of Georgia's Student Merchandising Association is an organization designed for students of all majors especially those majoring in Fashion Merchandising in the College of Family and Consumer Sciences. Career d

evelopment is emphasized through merchandising, fashion show production, public relations, styling, and more when preparing for the annual fashion show as part of UGA Fashion Week. During fashion show preparations students will be working with our local Athens boutiques and networking with other student organizations. SMA prides itself on member participation, and 100% involvement is needed for events like the annual fashion show. Leadership roles are highly encouraged as well since many committees are needed for events like this: public relations, advertising, styling, risk management, and even graphic designing. Members not only enjoy satisfaction from serving the community and the college, they develop a network of friendships through the Student Merchandising Association. Dues are $30 a semester or $50 a year! Contact Information:

As fall/winter 2023 Milan fashion week wraps up we’re here at SMA are taking the time to appreciate these designers use of COLOR. The color of the year predicted by Pantone is viva magenta. As a viewers of the fashion this seems like a surprising pick but these designers incorporated viva maroon in their collections. It’s seen in the whole set of the show, accessories and pieces in the show and the floor and bows for show. viva maroon is everywhere.
