Russ Fukushima ‘05 waited tables while he was a student at Menlo, and that’s where he discovered his passion for the restaurant industry. 🍽️

He opened his first restaurant, Blush, in San Jose in 2012, and today he’s the Owner/Operator of Water Tower Kitchen in Campbell, with a second concept called Flora opening soon in Santana Row. Russ says the skills he built at Menlo, from business fundamentals to people skills, are what got him here. He also credits Menlo’s tight-knit community for pushing him to meet people, take chances, and get comfortable putting himself in front of new opportunities, lessons he still leans on every day running his restaurants and leading his staff.

Alumni 2000 and after - we need your help this spring.

It’s the Y2K And Beyond Match Campaign! If you’ve never made a gift to Menlo College before, now is the perfect time. Every first-time donation from alumni who graduated after 2000 is being MATCHED, by fellow alumnus Victor Kasik ‘16 and Teri Saldivar-Kasik. The Match is worth $10,000 up to June 30th! Even a small donation will help Menlo students get a future-ready education. Thank you so much!

Learn more about another one of Menlo’s Alumni, Emmeline Wang ‘15, for her Ⓜ️

“Menlo was a place and memory that I will always hold fondly and cherish. During my time there, I had the chance to meet incredible friends, make unforgettable memories, and learn from professors who still hold an impact in shaping who I am today. From playing softball and running cross country, Menlo was a place where I could sharpen my skills and learn the invaluable lessons that are so applicable to life today.”

“After graduating, I pursued my passion and worked in coffee. From placing 6th in the United States Brewers’ Cup Competition to having consulted and freelance wrote for over 50+ coffee companies and becoming an internationally published author, my career in coffee is one I have to thank Menlo for. Now working as a Social Media Community Manager at AllTrails, I found my place in working at a company with values that directly align with my personal ones: caring and helping others find what recreation in the outdoors means to them.”

“I’m always thankful and look back on my time at Menlo College as it allowed me to develop my drive and determination, and provided me with the vigor I needed to thrive. Proud Oak for life!” 🌳🙌

Let us introduce you to Angelica Soto ‘22, who shares her this week! Ⓜ️

“During my time at Menlo College, I was a full-time student-athlete on the Menlo Women’s Soccer team, where I learned the importance of balance, commitment, and teamwork both on and off the field. I studied Sport Management, which sparked my passion for understanding the sports industry beyond competition and exploring a career path behind the scenes.” 📣⚽️

“The community at Menlo was incredibly welcoming, and I am grateful for the lifelong friends & mentors I gained during my time there. With the guidance of my Sport Management professor, Arman Medina, I was accepted into the Sport Management Master’s program at the University of San Francisco. “ 🌉

“After graduating from Menlo, I immediately gained hands-on experience across multiple roles working game days with the San Francisco 49ers and later with the San Jose Earthquakes. Today, I work for a Bay Area nonprofit that partners with professional sports teams, artists, and musicians to create opportunities for youth to grow artistically, athletically, and academically, where I continue to grow professionally and was recently promoted, allowing me to stay connected to sports in a meaningful and impactful way.” 🙌
