Our undergraduate ( #5) and graduate ( #8) programs are routinely ranked among the nations leading programs by U.S. We offer degrees in MSE at the bachelor's, Master's and PhD levels. Our undergraduate students have research experience before graduating. We of

fer the most scholarships out of all 9 College of Engineering schools here at GT. Our graduate students receive financial assistance in the form of graduate fellowships and assistantships. Our students are active in professional organizations such as the Georgia Tech Chapters of the American Ceramic Society, ASM International, TMS, MRS, Society of Plastics Engineers, Phi Psi, Keromos, and several other honor societies.

🔬 Student Spotlight: Hannah Andrews
This summer, 3rd year MSE student Hannah Andrews gained hands-on industry experience as a Quality Intern at Freudenberg NOK in Cleveland, GA!
During her internship, Hannah worked on corrosion testing of heat-treated steel components, investigated factors that influence corrosion, and supported quality and EHS initiatives.
One of the highlights of her experience was getting to apply concepts from her MSE coursework to real-world manufacturing challenges and seeing how materials science plays a role in product quality and performance.
We’re excited to see how Hannah continues to take her MSE education beyond the classroom!

MSE faculty member Meisha Shofner is helping advance a more sustainable future through the BRIDGES Engine, one of 12 initiatives selected by the National Science Foundation for a Regional Innovation Engines award. 🌱
With an initial $15 million award and the potential for up to $160 million over 10 years, BRIDGES brings together more than 80 partners across Alabama and Tennessee to build a sustainable biotechnology-based economy.
Shofner is leading work focused on packaging technologies and renewable materials, helping connect materials science research with new opportunities in manufacturing, sustainability and economic development.

MSE researchers Sungmee Park (left) and Sundaresan Jayaraman (right) will lead Georgia Tech’s efforts in FutureTEX — an up to $480 million effort to bring more textile manufacturing and advanced technology back to America.

Matthew McDowell, professor in Georgia Tech's School of Materials Science and Engineering and Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering, has been appointed to a National Academies committee examining future battery technologies for defense applications. The committee's work will help identify promising technologies and research opportunities that could strengthen the nation's battery capabilities in the years ahead.
