Beverly Harvard:
In October of 1994, Beverly Harvard became the first Black female Police Chief for the Atlanta Police Department.
Harvard's remarkable journey began at Morris Brown College. While being a student at MBC, she was a devoted member of the Sociology Club and the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. In 1972, Harvard graduated with a bachelor's degree in sociology from MBC.
She entered the police academy in 1973 and worked her way up. By, 1979 she became the Director of Public Affairs. While balancing police assignments and family life, she obtained a master's degree from Georgia State University in 1980.
Later on, Beverly Harvard achieved a degree from the Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI) National Academy. Ultimately, Harvard reached her goal of becoming the Chief of Police in 1994.
In 2010, President Barack Obama, named her the U.S. Marshal for the Northern District of Georgia.
