Dr. John Horgan received the FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award for his dedicated work directing the Violent Extremism Research Group. Dr. Horgan has a strong and enduring commitment to applying his extraordinary abilities and expertise to further the interests of U.S. National Security.

The FBI established this award to publicly acknowledge the achievements of those working to make a difference in their communities through the promotion of education and the prevention of crime and violence. Each year, one person or organization from each of the FBI’s 55 field offices is chosen to receive this prestigious award.

"Dr. Horgan has not only been a trusted collaborator with the FBI, but his research has also been instrumental in deepening our understanding of extremist psychology, thereby enhancing the safety of our communities,” said Paul Brown, Special Agent in Charge of FBI Atlanta.
