Research from Emory University is exploring the connection between vitamin D supplementation and cognitive health in older adults at risk for dementia.

A study led by Dr. Victoria Pak, associate professor at Emory University's Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, found that higher-dose vitamin D supplementation was associated with better cognitive performance in adults experiencing both mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and sleep disturbances, two factors linked to an increased risk of Alzheimer's disease.

These findings provide an important step toward understanding how nutrition, sleep, and cognitive health may be connected.

MN students recently put their skills to the test during an Emergency Preparedness Simulation designed to prepare future nurses for real-world crisis situations.

In the simulation, students responded to a natural disaster impacting their local hospital, applying their Stop the Bleed training, practicing therapeutic communication with patients, and collaborating effectively with their health care teams. As the scenario unfolded, they also navigated questions from a news reporter seeking information about the hospital's response, adding another layer of complexity to the exercise.

Experiential learning opportunities like this help prepare our students to lead with confidence when every second counts. Special thanks to Drs. Becklenburg, Baker, and Downes for creating this valuable training experience for our future nurses.
