Congrats to New South contributor Timothy DeLizza, who was one of two finalists in this stellar contest! You can read his story in issue 13.1!

Happy New Year! We are delighted to start 2021 with the results of the 2020 Calvino Prize in Fabulist Fiction.

Congratulations to our winner Leanne Ogasawara for her piece "Bare Bones."

Leanne Ogasawara has worked as a translator from Japanese for over twenty years. Her translation work has included academic translation, poetry, philosophy, and documentary film. Her creative writing has appeared in the Kyoto Journal, River Teeth/Beautiful Things, Hedgehog Review, Entropy, the Dublin Review of Books, the Pasadena Star newspaper— and forthcoming in Pleiades Magazine and Gulf Coast Journal. Hey folks, just a heads up that we'll be closing submissions to our Micro Prose category at the end of this month so that we can prepare to launch our next round of stories in January--get those flash pieces in soon if you haven't already! And don’t forget that we’re open for regular submissions of poetry, fiction, and CNF until March 31st!

Submissions are open from September 1st - March 30th. New South seeks to publish high-quality work, regardless of genre, form, or regional ties. Also, some good news: we plan on having some fee-free submission windows! Right now we plan to dedicate these to the last day of each month, with perhaps some more spontaneous periods in between. We’ll announce them on social media as they arise!
