Armenda Bialas (MPH ’24) began her academic journey studying psychology, driven by a desire to help people. It wasn’t until she worked in case management at a homeless shelter that she began to see the bigger picture—how challenges like housing instability, substance use and access to care are shaped by larger systems.

That realization led her to public health.

Through her MPH experience, Armenda gained hands-on research experience across areas including maternal health, food insecurity and refugee health. As a graduate research assistant, she led projects, contributed to publications and developed practical skills in qualitative research and program evaluation.

Today, Armenda is a policy analyst at RAND, where she works across health, education and social policy—applying the same core skills in different contexts to drive meaningful impact.

Her perspective on public health is simple but powerful:
“You can do so many things with your degree.”

Armenda’s journey is a reminder that meaningful careers are often shaped by curiosity, adaptability and a willingness to explore new directions.
