Cool write up on Brother Sean Mihm! Congrats on IFC Greek of the Week!
Meet Sean Mihm, our next Greek of the Week. Sean is a 4th year Chemical Engineering student. In addition to being a brother of the Sigma Chi fraternity, Sean is the CEO of the Georgia Tech Student Foundation.
“I definitely think that it’s important to instill a sense of philanthropy in other people,” said Sean, “People should understand the impact of their service or their gift. Showing this would help make philanthropy a passion for people.”
Sean is also planning to join a start-up after his graduation. He feels like Sigma Chi has prepared him by developing his leadership skills.
“Every year we do our Alumni Retreat, so each alumnus is paired with three of four students,” Sean said, “It’s good to know that I have these successful people around me that are great resources throughout my life.”
Sigma Chi also participates in Leadership Discussion Groups, put on by Harvard professor Bill George, Georgia Tech Sigma Chi alumni.
“It’s really interesting to see my brothers outside of classes, and see the values they find most important,” noted Sean, “I think that it’s a great thing that we do, and it’s really made me feel prepared for graduating.”
Sean joined Sigma Chi as a second-year student. When asked how he found the right fraternity for him, Sean said, “I had a great friend who had joined Sigma Chi, so I decided to give it a shot. I liked how I could have a conversation with everyone there, and I couldn’t see any cliques or divisions.”
Sean also has advice for students thinking about joining Greek Life on Georgia Tech’s campus.
“To anyone who’s waiting, it’s never too late. Even though I joined as a second year, I didn’t feel out of place,” said Sean, “I was just as close to my pledge brothers and the brothers of Sigma Chi.”
If you see Sean on campus, thank him for his service on the Georgia Tech Student Foundation, and congratulate him for being our Greek of the Week!
“I’ve learned to never think you can’t learn something,” said Sean, “For the start-up, it’s a lot of Biomedical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, so I didn’t really know anything. I was willing to learn, though, and now I feel really good with what I can do. It’s important to look back and see how much you’ve learned, and to keep growing like you did before.”
