February 7th marks the beginning of Healthy Relationships Week. The purpose of this week is to foster the importance of healthy relationships, and in turn help prevent domestic violence and sexual assault. No two relationships are the same, but all relationships share common characteristics. Healthy Relationships extend past intimate relationships, but also friends and family.

As future healthcare professionals, it is our responsibly to know the signs of domestic violence, and intervene appropriately.

Signs include:
•Injuries that are inconsistent with the explanation provided
•complaints of stress, fatigue, sexual dysfunction, and chronic pelvic pain
•Heightened anxiety, depression, and panic attacks
•Guest accompanying client may be overly involved in treatment and unwilling to leave client alone

If interested in learning more about Domestic Violence and Occupational Therapy, please visit https://research.aota.org/ajot/article-abstract/61/6/704/5211/Occupational-Therapy-Services-for-Individuals-Who?redirectedFrom=fulltext

Anyone who feels they or someone they know needs assistance can call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE
